Mayor’s Message 2008

As we move through the early part of 2008 we look forward to another great year for you, the residents of Ridley Park. My goal to for the past ten years and council’s goal has been to “maintain and enhance Ridley Park as a quality residential community.” Council, working with our residents, has been achieving this goal and will continue to do so in the coming year while also maintaining our rich heritage and tradition.

Ridley Park will continue to be a very active community providing events for the residents of all ages. These various activities will be discussed elsewhere on this web site.

As our community becomes younger there is a need for a review of our recreation activities and park uses to accommodate our younger residents. Our police chief was recently presented with a Drug Education and Awareness grant for $79,000 dollars to take a lead position in organizing programs for Ridley Park and local communities. This is a significant grant for a very serious issue which is growing. Our goal will be to slow this growth. We have been running drug awareness programs in Ridley Park for several years thanks to an initiative taken by one of our residents Chris Valerio.

Several other new events are in the planning stages as they develop information will be provided.

I will close with the Mayor’s history lesson -

“And now December 12 A.D. 1887 the court confirms the judgment of the Grand Jury and decrees that said village of Ridley Park will be incorporated in a Borough, in conformity with the prayer of the petitions; that the corporate style and title therefore shall be “The Borough of Ridley Park” and that the annual Borough election shall be held at Ward’s Store on the third Tuesday of February.”

And that is how we got our start!
