Council Meetings & Minutes

  The Ridley Park Borough Council met in regular session on the above date in the Community Room of Ridley Park Borough Hall. Council President Perry Artese called the meeting to order at 7:00 P.M.

PLEDGE OF ALLEGIANCE

The meeting was opened with the Pledge of Allegiance led by President Perry Artese.

MOMENT OF SILENCE

A moment of silence was observed for the victims and families of the recent tragedy at Virginia Tech.

ROLL CALL

Council members present: Mr. Artese, Mrs. Hopper, Mr. Pinto, Mr. Purcell, Mr. Rahn, Mr. Wright and Mayor Eberle. Also present Charles Catania Jr./Engineer and Mr. Raffaele, Esq./Solicitor. Mr. Wolhafe was absent and Chief Byrne arrived late.

AKNOWLEDGMENTS

2007 Delaware County Library System Bookmark Contest Winners

Before the Bookmark awards Mayor Eberle announced that there is a FAA public meeting scheduled on Tuesday, May 1st that is important. Mayor Eberle has written a letter to be sent to the residents and he would like as many residents as possible to attend. He stated that it is important to attend because it is important to the equality of our life, our future in Ridley Park and Delaware County.

Mayor Eberle announced that someone found a watch on the lawn of the Borough Hall tonight. He stated if anyone is missing a watch he would have it.

Mr. Rahn announced that there are copies of the newsletter with information regarding the FAA meeting on May 1st.

Mr. Rahn, liaison to the library, along with Librarian Margaret Rooney announced that April is Nation Library month and presented the winners of the 2007 Delaware Count Library System Bookmark Contest with Certificate of Achievement awards. (See Attached)




Ridley Park Athletic Club Junior Competition Cheerleaders (COPY ATTACHED)

Mayor Eberle introduced Bob Berger, president of the Athletic Club to present trophies, red jackets and awards to the Ridley Park Club Junior Competition Cheerleaders and coaches. Before presenting the awards, Mr. Berger stated that the Ridley Park Athletic Club celebrated its 45th year of serving the community. The participation on all levels and sports is bursting. Currently, the Ridley Park Athletic Club has over 650 families participating in athletic sports and events. He stated that this is up 20% within five years. Mr. Berger thanked the volunteers, coaches, parents, fellow Board Members and the kids. They all give 100%! Bob Berger also thanked Council for all their help and continued support.

COMMITTEE REPORTS

TECHNOLOGY/PUBLIC RELATIONS/COMMUNITY RESOURCES – MR. RAHN

Mr. Rahn announced that the Borough Bulletin is would be delivered this week. He thanked Mr. Poole for his assistance. (Copy Attached)

Mr. Rahn reported that the Ridley Park Athletic Club’s Texas Hold’em Tournament was a huge success.

Mr. Rahn introduced Library Director Margaret Rooney to present the Library Report. (Copy Attached)

Mr. Wright made a motion to accept the Technology/Public Relations/Community Resources Report, seconded by Mr. Pinto.

No Comments from Council.

Carried by a vote of 6-0.

FINANCE & INSURANCE/BUDGE – MRS. HOPPER (COPY ATTACHED)

Mrs. Hopper reported that the Finance Report would consist of two issues. First being that revenues are beginning to come at great speed because of the discount period. Mrs. Hopper reported that for the month ending March 31st 2007 the Borough collected $1,323,566.77. She stated that copies of the monthly and year to date reports are on file and available for review at the Borough Office.




Mrs. Hopper reported that under the Ordinance section of the agenda the Borough is taking a large step to continue with the Borough’s major project of the new police station. She explained that Ordinance No. 1175 is the issuing an ordinance authorizing the issuance of a sale of general obligation note that will aloud the Borough to initiate the matching funds that the Borough recei
